2019 New England Winterfest #2

16s & 18s Undefeated Champs At Season Kickoff


Eight SMASH Girls teams' 2019 seasons got underway in Hartford, CT at New England Winterfest #2.

Juniors club teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, New England, and Quebec competed in three days of tournament play over Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend.

SMASH 16s and SMASH 18s each went undefeated en route to Open Gold crowns.  SMASH 17s placed 2nd with 18s Attack and 16s eXtreme also posting Gold bracket finishes.  17s Black Ice and 16s Sparks placed in Silver and 18s Blizzard placed in Bronze.

Over the two Winterfest weekends, sixteen SMASH Girls teams combined for a match record of 80-25 and won four of the seven age groups.

Congratulations to all athletes and coaches for a fantastic opening tournament!  Next up for eleven of the older SMASH teams are February's NERVA Open Qualifiers in Springfield, MA.

Six current SMASH players, and four former ones, were among the 2018 Boston Herald Girls Volleyball All-Scholastic recipients:

2018 Boston Globe All-Scholastics

PLUS Player of the Year, MVPs, and All-Stars


Many SMASH Volleyball Club athletes were recognized this fall for outstanding high school seasons, including the Boston Globe's Player of the Year and All-Scholastic selections, multiple league/conference Most Valuable Players, and dozens of league/conference All-Stars.

Congratulations to SMASH 18s' Riley James, who garnered her second Globe Division 1 Player of the Year award!

Seven other current SMASH players (plus seven former ones) received Globe All-Scholastic recognition, including SMASH 18s' Gabrielle Bailey, Christina Conforti, Abigail Rae, Chelsea Simmons, and Ashley Wang, plus Kaleigh Fitzgerald (SMASH 17s) and Aleksandra Qose (SMASH 18s Blizzard).

36 current SMASH players (from just seven travel teams!) are league All-Stars in the Globe's coverage area, with 19 additional former SMASH players receiving All-Star nods from their conferences.

MVPs of the Tri-Valley, EIL, ISL, Patriot, Middlesex, Merrimack Valley, Hockomock, and Dual County leagues are current or former SMASH players.
