SMASH & Gators Stage Historic U10 Match

SMASH Volleyball Club and Gators Volleyball Club staged the first U10 junior girls volleyball match in New England history on Saturday, April 21.

Hosted by Gators in Bedford, MA, the exhibition match featured SMASH 10s and Gators 10s.  The two teams used the Tripleball format, designed to produce more rallies and extended plays.  SMASH recorded a 2-1 victory, with both teams showcasing strong fundamental skills and dynamic athleticism.

Gators Club Director Frank Gardner was thrilled with the event ("It was awesome!"), and is excited to see the evolution of New England youth volleyball.  Gardner has been instrumental in creating opportunities for younger and younger players, organizing a series of U11 friendship tournaments in each of the last two seasons.

SMASH coach Patrick Helmas is blown away by his U10 team.  "The progress these athletes have made this season is totally incredible - this team is amazing!"  Helmas also coaches the women's volleyball team at Babson College, as well as the SMASH Boys 16s team.

These stellar young athletes will be back on the court this Saturday, April 28 at a U11 event hosted by Dragons Volleyball Club in Worcester, MA.
