Top New England Club at Region's Biggest Event
The 22 SMASH Volleyball Club teams (15 Girls, 7 Boys) were the most of any club at the 2018 Mizuno Boston Volleyball Festival, held at the BCEC in the Seaport District.
SMASH Girls had the top New England 18s, 17s, 15s, and 14s teams, while SMASH Boys had the top New England 18s, 17s, and 16s teams.
SMASH 17s were Gold champions of Girls 17 Open, defeating East Coast Power in a thrilling final. SMASH 16s, 16s Sparks, 16s eXtreme, SMASH 15s, and 14s Ice all recorded Gold bracket finishes.
SMASH 14s won the Silver bracket of 14 Open, with 18s Attack and 18s Jets also notching Silver results. SMASH 18s placed 2nd in 18 Open Bronze.
SMASH Boys 18s came in second in 18 Club, losing by the slimmest of margins to NYC Impact in an awesome final match. They were joined in the Gold bracket by SMASH 17s (playing up a year) and 18s Force.
SMASH Boys 16s also played up a year in 17 Club, placing 3rd, with 17s Chaos placing 7th. In Boys 16 Club, 16s Fire and 16s Ice placed 2nd and 7th respectively in Gold.
SMASH Boys teams conclude their 2018 club season on March 10 with the NERVA Boys Championships, while SMASH Girls teams begin their slate of local tournaments with NERVA I on March 11.
Open Season! New England Winterfest Wins for 13s, 14s, 15s, & Boys 18s
15 SMASH teams in play at kickoff event in Hartford
The 2018 girls club volleyball season is underway! Eight SMASH teams competed at Winterfest 1 in Hartford, CT over the January 6-7 weekend.
SMASH 15s and SMASH 14s each went undefeated in claiming Open division titles, and SMASH 13s took home top honors in the inaugural year of U13 competition at New England's season-opening event.
15s Power and 14s Ice posted impressive 3rd place finishes in 15 Open and 14 USA respectively.
SMASH entered two 12s teams in the second year of U12 play at Winterfest, and 14s Fire embraced the challenge of a strong field in 14 Open.
SMASH also had 7 boys teams competing with SMASH Boys 18s finishing 1st in Boys 18 Club and SMASH Boys 17s finishing 3rd in Boys 18 Club.
Congratulations to all teams! Winterfest 2 continues next weekend with the older girls' age groups, and seven SMASH teams will head to Hartford for their first competitive matches of the new year.
