Melanie Markley
Coach, SMASH 15's 2007-2008
Melanie Markley comes to SMASH with a plethora of athletic experiences, both volleyball and non-volleyball related. She was a member of Northeastern University Women's Club Volleyball team from 2001 until she graduated in 2004 magna cum laude. Prior to NU, Melanie attended Clemson University where she walked-on to their Women's Varsity Rowing team her freshman year.
Her coaching experience has been prominently focused on her work at Beantown Volleyball Club - a Boy's Junior Olympic Program outside of Boston where she helped coach for four years. Two of those years she helped coach the first Junior Olympic team (girls or boys) in the New England region to secure a bid to play in the Open Division at the National Championships. She has also helped coach girls teams at Natick and Brookline High Schools.
Although she did not start playing volleyball until college, she was an all-around athlete since the age of six when she began swimming for a Junior Olympic team. She swam competitively on her J.O. team for twelve years in addition to playing softball for nine, field hockey for five, track for three, and soccer for three. She was a Boston Globe, Herald, Lowell Sun, and Metro-West Daily News All-Star for multiple years in high school for swimming, track, and softball.
Melanie continues to be involved in playing competitive volleyball both through Boston Ski & Sports Club and Yankee Volleyball.
