League and Skills Program
The first day two days of the introductory period have been completed. The full program begins on Sun., Jan. 24. See details below.
This program is designed primarily for High School players (if younger, email Stephanie Lefever, one of League Directors)
Goal: give solid training in all skills PLUS many days of competition
The hours are always 10-12:30, always on Sundays, always at Newton North H.S.
The schedule runs every Sunday (except Easter) from January 10 to May 2
Coaches are chosen for coaching ability, knowledge, and most importantly, positive skills with young players
Coaches include college and high school varsity coaches, top area players, men and women, and club coaches
The LEAGUE and SKILLS Program alternates sessions of rigorous drills with competition.
Every other Sunday players are given a 2-½ hour workout. Skill acquisition, repetitive skill training, and physical conditioning are emphasized.
On alternate Sundays competition occurs in a League format. The amount of time spent competing in matches is high.
All players receive regular playing time (no "subs".) Within each position, as equal as possible.
Players can form own teams (can be all from same school!) or can request to be on a team with specific friend(s).
The League + Skills program is a no-cut program.
There is a $40 tryout fee** for this program, and it includes the first 2 dates (** this fee is waived if you paid the tryout fee at the travel team tryouts in Nov/Dec '09)
There is a certified trainer on site for taping/other medical issues.
We are very serious about our coaches; we have many, and they receive a 1-hour training session before each Sunday's program
The fee for this program is $450:
This fee is due on Jan. 24, the first date after the introductory period - Check to: 'SMASH Volleyball'
This includes all coaching and trainer fees, gym costs, uniform shirt insurance, Newton Recreation fee, equipment (volleyballs, carts, etc)
Price perspective: This is the price of the 3-day (!) summer camp at a local Div. I college, or of a good 1 week summer volleyball camp
