Newton Parks and Recreation, and SMASH Volleyball presents, each summer, a series of Volleyball Clinics, for High School Boy and Girl Athletes.
These camps are unique in New England because of the extended concentration on specific skills.
Each week requires 6 hours of drills each day for 5 days: 30 hours of strongly coached, demanding volleyball drills in ONE SPECIALTY POSITION ! All of our weeks fills early!
Register by May! These clinics will be held at sites in Newton, MA, and/or at our new volleyball facility (12 courts!) in Canton.
--- -We have a Nationally-Certified, full time trainer for each week!
Note: Many other camps are Sunday evening through Thursday mid-day - basically 3-4 days, for same price or more! SMASH is 5 FULL days, 9 AM-4 PM
Below are desciptions of the 3 weeks of summer training:
SETTER WEEK: Monday - Friday July 30 - Aug. 3
Site: TBA: Arrive early first day (8:15+, to check all forms, come with parent)
Schedule: 9-4, lunch 12-1 (12-12:30 no activity permitted)
Thousands of supervised sets: front sets - back sets - jump sets - middle sets - play sets - setter tips - set bad passes - footwork patterns - right-side defense,
attacking, blocking - leadership skills - mental training - offensive strategy
ATTACKER WEEK: Monday - Friday Aug. 6 - Aug. 10
Site: TBA : Arrive early first day (8:15+, to check all forms, come with parent)
Schedule: 9-4, lunch 12-1 (12-12:30 no activity permitted)
Hundreds and hundreds of powerful swings - proper approach and footwork - efficient arm swing, correct hand contact - wrist snap -
hit power with topspin - hit crosscourt, line, cut shots, tips, roll shots, 1’s, 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, slides, back row attacks - attacking from the left, middle, right - blocking
DEFENSE and PASSING Week: Monday - Friday Aug. 13 - Aug. 17
Site: TBA: Arrive early first day (8:15+, to check all forms, come with parent)
Schedule: 9-4, lunch 12-1 (12-12:30 no activity permitted)
Dig spikes - pass serve - play tips - read the attacker - emergency skills (sprawls, extensions, dives, rolls) - pass free balls - pass serves and attacks overhead (‘new’ skill) - blocking - covering under the block - transition to attack - basically, dig and pass all day - Become indispensable to your team ! ! !
The most FUN week, and the most demanding!
